Lothar and the Hand People - Space Hymn (1969)

Moog anyone? Lothar and the Hand People are a bunch of happy psychedelic space-cadets. "Space Hymn" is their second and last album. So, if you like moogs, early synthesizers and random psychedelic weirdness, you are in for a good time. A Rolling Stone magazine review describes them as this:

"It is electronic country, a kind of good-time music played by mad dwarfs, and it is really good to listen to. There is no tension here, no jarring forces at war with each other. It may be strange that New York, the city which deifies speed and insanity, could produce this music, but it is as if Lothar and the Hand People have gone through this madness and come out on the other side, smiling."

Neil Young, Bob Dylan & The Band - 1975-03-23 SNACK Benifit.

This an interesting concert. I mean Neil Young, Bob Dylan and The Band has got to be interesting. They got together for The San Fransisco SNACK Benefit Concert at Kezar Stadium. Here is the info I got with the recording.

"This was a one time only mixture of Dylan/Band/Young.  The appearance of Neil Young and company was merely rumored and Dylan's performance was a complete surprise. Completely unrehearsed, some of this music is great.  Dylan debuts I Want You live, but unfortunately he can't be heard for most of the song. Mostly what we hear is Rick Danko shouting the chorus. Hearing the Band without Robbie Robertson is weird at first, but Ben Keith makes up for it very nicely. The oddest thing on this tape is the Helpless/Knockin' medley where Dylan substitutes "knockin' on the dragon's door" for "knockin' on heaven's door". I have no idea what he meant by it! The entire set is approximately 45 minutes"

The Blues Project - The Matrix San Fransisco, CA September 1966

Here we have two concerts at The Matrix in San Francisco, CA 1966. The actual dates remain somewhat of a mystery. Both superbly preserved soundboards. The Blues Project  are one of the first pioneers of psychedelic rock, with the extended jams to boot. And these two concert show you why. If you haven't gotten around to checking these guys out, this is a good starting point. I wish they had stuck around a bit longer, they were definitely on to something. Hopefully more live recordings will appear in the future. Hearing them live is far more rewarding a listen, than the few studio albums they put out. But that's generally the case with this style of music.

What we have here is two sets of radio broadcasts from Europa 1 Radio France. Tracks one through three are taken from Hotel de Champs-Elysees a Paris, Paris, France on January 23, 1970. Tracks four through six are taken from Palais Des Sports, Lyon, France on June 12, 1971. They both sound very good for FM recordings.

Monster Magnet - Middle East Cafe Cambridge, MA 1993-11-06

 

To help celebrate the release of Monster Magnet's new album "Mastermind".   Here is a soundboard recording made by the radio station WBCN. This is back when WBCN actually had a strong play-list, and Monster Magnet was pumping out some serious psychedelic space junk. I had the great fortune of being able to attend this show with my friends. Though my mind was seriously under heavy psychedelic pressure, I do remember having the time of my life. And this recording only helps to reverberate it all back into my mind. So, in the words of Dave Wyndorf  "Down that medicine now!"

This recording is nothing more than perfect. Lou Reed  is in top form and his band is gritty. They really jam it out on some of these songs. This is a must have for all Lou Reed and Velvet Underground fans. You're gonna love it.

David Bowie - PNE Live Rehearsal 1976

It's rare to  fined early Bowie that sounds descent. But that is what we have here. This is a soundboard recording of a rehearsal at The Pacific National Exhibition Coliseum in Vancouver, BC, Canada on February 2nd 1976.

Alexander Shulgin suffurs a stroke.

Jethro Tull - Sweden 01.09.1969

I find it very hard to come across early Jethro Tull that is not poorly recorded.  And even that is tough to come by.  So, when I find something like this, it really makes my musical day. This is a soundboard recorded in mono. Don't let the word mono turn you away. It really doesn't take away from this recording at all. It sounds great. I've only gotten a few shows from this time period that come close to this quality. The concert takes place in Konserthuset Stockholm, Sweden on January 9th, 1969. Ian Anderson is in full form singing and tearing it up on the flute.  He yelps and squeals like and insane man. "Martin's Tune" is a nice 14 minute instrumental. As well as "Dharma For One" and "Nothing Is Easy" both over 15 minutes. They're real nice psychedelic jams. Turn on your red light and enjoy.

Roger Waters - Madison Square Garden New York 10-5/6-2010

Here is both nights of Roger Waters performances of "The Wall". October 5th and 6th at Madison Square Garden in New York.  These audience recordings sound absolutely brilliant. Both nights were recorded by wklitz, and he did a wonderful job. I can't thank him enough for his generosity in sharing these fine recordings with us. These have to be the best sounding, I've heard on this tour so far. You wont be disappointed. Not to mention that Roger is in top form. He is putting it all out there on this version of "The Wall". Looking forward to seeing this show when he gets this way. So make yourself a MSG box set and enjoy.
