Quicksilver Messenger Service - Family Dog, SF, Ca, 8/1/1970

The Quicksilver Messenger Service didn't get the fame that their counterparts did, but that doesn't mean they were not important, to the beginnings of psychedelic music movement. They were an integral part of creating, and shaping what we have all come to love. This Family Dog concert is proof of that. What we have here is an audience, reel to reel recording, transfered and remastered by 38f. He did a pretty damn good job of it. The 30 minute "Who Do You Love" makes this show worth its psychedelic gold. Check it out.

Set List

The Hat (I'd Rather Be Lonely)(fades in)
Freeway Flyer
You Can't Come With Me (sometimes introduce as I Believe)

Tim Buckley - Live At Escondido, California, October 1970

This is for the die-hard Tim Buckley fans. The sound quality can be a bit of a challenge. There is some tape hiss and distortion here and there. Please, don't let that stop you, from at least checking it out. Especially, if your into Tim's improvisational music. There is some really interesting music on this. He's got those eerie vocals going on like on Lorca. It's tripped out jazz with Tim at his experimental finest. I'm glad I have this recording in my collection. I think you will as well.

Set List:

Borderline
Jungle Fire
"Just Got Back..."
Drifting
Halloween Night
Interlude
Set 1 Clip
Choral Piece

Neil Young Bridge School Benefit 10/24-25/2009

Sorry, it's been so long since I've posted. You know how it goes sometimes. Before you know it time has escaped you, and weeks have past. Well, I hope I can make up for this lost time with some great sounding music. And what better way to start than with Neil Young. What we have here is the two sets, Neil played on Saturday and Sunday night, for the Bridge School Benefit. This two day event took place at The Shoreline Amphitheater, in Mountain View, California. Both nights are audience recordings, recorded with those faboulous Schoeps microphones. So, you already know they sound amazing. Neil mixes it up slightly, though there are a few songs he played both nights. Either way it's not like hearing the same song twice, by Neil is that big a deal. Especially, when its Neil playing acoustic. Hope you enjoy.

Set list for Saturday Night:

I Am A Child
Sugar Mountain
Out On The Weekend
Already One
Hank To Hendrix
Old King
Harvest Moon
Comes A Time

Set list for Sunday Night:

Out On The Weekend

Them Crooked Vultures - War Memorial Auditorium, Nashville, Tenn. 10/5/2009

So check this out. A power trio consisting of Josh Homme (Queens of the Stoneage, Kyuss), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin). These guys playing together is enough to interest me. And thanks to the person who made this audience recording, we can hear what this trio is up to. And let me tell you you wont be disappointed. I know this really doesn't fit the psychedelic sound, but it's to damn cool to pass-by. And I have a few friends that I really want to share this with. Hope you enjoy.

Mott The Hoople - Hammersmith Apollo 10/2/2009

Thanks to Gobolino, we have a great sounding audience recording of Mott the Hoople's reunion concert. This is the second of four concerts to be played at the Hammersmith Apollo, London. It's been 35 years since the band has played together on stage. So this is a pretty big event for fans. Mott the Hoople sounds real strong, for being out of the circus for so long. There are some minor miss steps here and there, but that's to be expected. It's Rock and Roll, that's the way it should be. Gobolino did a wonderful job recording the show. There is a bit of distance in the sound, but in a good way. Turn it up loud, and you can feel the row, Gobolino was seated in. A big thank you for sharing this with those of us, who could not be there. Also, if you dig this concert make sure you go out and get the first night. The band has a soundboard recording of the October 1st, with a full cd of photos and video. It totals 3 cds and is available for purchase here. Again, Thank You Gobolino.

Enjoy the show.

The Beatles' Yellow Submarine 3D in the pipeline?

The Beatles
Disney are discussing a plan to make a 3D version of The Beatles film ‘Yellow Submarine’ with Robert Zemeckis, the man behind the 2009 3D remake of ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Disney would like the film to be released in 2012 - possibly to coincide with the London Olympics - rumours suggest.

Talks are currently going on to secure the rights to use 16 Beatles songs.

J Geils Band - Fillmore East NY 06-27-1971

You gotta love The J Geils Band. Peter Wolf, the quick witted lead singer. Magic Dick tears it up on the harmonica. And the rest of the band pulls it all together into a power house, or powder keg. Being from Boston, my home town, I grew up listening to them. Peter Wolf was a DJ on the best rock station in New England WBCN. Which I just recently found out no longer rules the air waves. It's kinda sad that BCN is done. They to me represented what real rock radio was about. No play lists, and foul mouthed DJ's whacked out on god knows what.
This is an FM recording live at the Fillmore East. It sounds great, and the band plays some real gems. So, light one up, and start tearing up the carpet.

Led Zeppelin - 1969-01-11 Fillmore West

OK, first off this is supposedly the earliest known soundboard recording of Led Zeppelin. They are the supporting act for Country Joe and The Fish at The Fillmore West, San Fransisco. Taj Mahal was the opening act. To me it's kinda of a weird pairing of bands, but hell I like them all. The Country Joe portion of this concert is officially released. I have it, and really enjoy the album. Comparing the official release of Country Joe and this soundboard of Led Zeppelin. The sound is pretty damn good. It just doesn't have that extra mastering polish. Either way it's a must have for all die-hards, and everyone else. I don't consider myself to be a die-hard, and I love this recording.

Set List:

I Can't Quit You
Dazed And Confused
You Shook Me
How Many More Times
Communication Breakdown

New Riders Of The Purple Sage - 12/2/71 Boston Music Hall, MA

Here is some amazing sounding psychedelic country rock. The New Riders of the Purple Sage opened for The Grateful Dead at the Boston Music Hall. This was a mind blowing night. If you don't have The Dead portion of this show, I highly recommend it. With the recent passing of John "Marmaduke" Dawson, I thought this would be a great show to remember his talent by. This soundboard recording comes from Jerry Moore, who also passed away in June. Jerry Moore is well known in the Dead community, for his amazing concert recordings. Both of these guys are greatly missed. Fortunately for us, their psychedelic contributions will be cherished for many years to come.

Set List:

Rainbow
Swinging Doors
I Don't Know You

JOHN "MARMADUKE" DAWSON (1945-2009)

1945-2009

John passed away peacefully on July 21, 2009 at the age of 64 in Mexico, where he had retired several years ago. It is with great sadness that we relay this news, and extend our deepest condolences to his family and all his many fans out there.

His songs inspired us in so many ways. His energy, passion and commitment to the New Riders brought us all so much joy over the years. We can all be thankful that his music and legacy will live on forever.

Ratdog at The Masquerade July 17-18th.

This should make for a fun weekend. I have the great fortune of living about ten feet away. Which should make for one hell of a party. I'm not a big fan of Moe, but that's alright. I can work around that. I got a hash ball the size of my eyeball, and a fridge full of beer. Hope to see you there, for the some of the good times.

It's A Beautiful Day -Fillmore West-San Francisco, CA 5/23-25/68

Here are three amazing soundboards from three amazing nights, at The Fillmore West, in San Francisco. It's A Beautiful Day opened for The Yardbirds every night. If you haven't had a chance to hear them, this is a great place to start. These shows came before they released their first self titled album in 1969. This San Fransisco band has all the psychedelia you need, to keep you warm at night. They combine a original mix of Blues, Folk, Rock and of coarse Psychedelic music. I didn't know a lot about these ladies and gentlemen, until the last year or so. And honestly, I have know idea how they slipped by. I feel lucky to be introduced to something old that is new to me. I hope it turns out that way for you.

Syd Barret - Dawn of the Piper

It's been three years since the passing of this great Psychedelic Pioneer. Here is a really strong compilation of music from both his Pink Floyd and his solo career. If you are hardcore about Syd Barret you have probably heard it all before. It's just nice to hear some of these alternate takes put together for a new listening experience. I thought it would make a nice listen on July 7th, the day of his passing.

And a little something on the lighter side.

Spectrum - Live at Cooper's Ale Works May 6, 2009

To help celebrate Spectrum's new EP "War Sucks." Here is a spectacular recording of them playing at Cooper's Ale Works in Nevada City, California. This is a matrix recording, which blends together an audience and soundboard recording. If you are not familiar with Spectrum, it's Pete Kember's band. He was one of the original members of Spacemen 3. It's a great band worth checking out. On tour he plays a few songs from the Spacemen 3 era, just like Jason Pearce of Spiritualized. Actually, you'll notice a few on this recording like Suicide and Transparent Radiation. And man, he really takes his songs to a tripped out space. The intro alone is over thirty minute of pure psychedelia. Amazing head music.

Set List:

Intro
Mary
Transparent Radiation
Set Me Free
How You Satisfy Me
When Tomorrow Hits
Revolution
War Sucks (instrumental version)
