The New Barbarians - Barb Wired Tour Vol.2 1979

What better way to drink in the New Year, than with the ultimate partiers, The New Barbarians.  This is a jam packed four CD set of tour rehearsals and various concert tracks. This bootleg is the Empress Valley EVSD 203/204/205/206 version. Once again this label has done an impeccable job of cleaning up these recordings. I'd have to say disc four is the best sounding. I absolutely love "I Can Feel The Fire" track five on disc four. It is fantastic along with several other rehearsal takes on that disc. The band, along with Keith and Ron play with drunken' precision, that will make you woozy, rowdy, and ready to tear into the New Year.  So, have a Happy New Year. Be safe, and have a good time.

Pigpen's Apartment Solo Acoustic Demos 19??

Here we have some four track recordings from Ron "Pigpen" McKernan. Many know of Pigpen as a member of The Grateful Dead. He was an integral part of their blues background. And this recording exemplifies that to the fullest. There is a lot of debate as to when these recording were made. Many believe that most were recorded in the early 70's. Pigpen was working on a solo album during that time, before his untimely death.  There are some real strong tracks on this demo. It's just Ron and his guitar and harmonica. It's down and dirty blues, like only Ron could do. The recording has a bit of weather to it. A bit of tape hiss, and other anomalies.  This to me just gives it more appeal. It's part of the music, giving these blues songs, character and life. In no way does it take away from the music. If you are a blues fan, and or Deadhead. You should check this out.

Track list:
01. Two Women
02. Michael
03. Katie Mae
04. New Orleans > That Train
05. Instrumental
06. Bring me my Shotgun
07. C.C. Rider
08. Katie Mae
09. Hitchhiking Woman
10. Two Women
11. When I Was a Boy
12. Bring me my Shotgun
13. I Believe
14. She's Mine
15. No time
16. Sweet Georgia Brown > Betty and Dupree

Tracks 13 -15 are Pigpen's final recordings, 3\9\1973
Track 16 is Pigpen and Jorma, 1964

Bob Dylan - CBS Unreleased Album 1963

This album was to be released during Christmas time of 1963-64. It went as far as an acetate pressing. For more info. But for some reason that's as far as it got. I find this rather odd, considering how good the album is. Song choice and sound quality both hit the mark. It's definitely one for all Bob Dylan fans. It's just Bob and his guitar. The sound is beautiful, and the poem "Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie," taken from NYC Town Hall, April 12, 1963, is the perfect way to start this album. Maybe one day it will be official until then, Enjoy.

Set List:
Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie *
Lay Down Your Weary Tune
Dusty Old Fairgrounds *
John Brown *
When the Ship Comes In
Who Killed Davy Moore?
Percy's Song
Bob Dylan's New Orleans Rag *
Seven Curses

Miles Davis Septet - Shaboo Inn, Willimantic CT, January 26, 1974

There seems to be a bit of confusion on the actual date of this show. The Miles Davis Septet was scheduled to play the 24th and 25th of January.  Apparently, the first night was cancelled to hair issues. Yes, I said hair. And there is speculation that they made up for the missed show on the 26th. For more in depth analysis check here. It doesn't matter all that much, when this concert happened, or whether the songs were all played on the same night. What matters to me is how amazing this music is. This is some pretty heady stuff. Miles is at his psychedelic best with this one. The septet is playing some heavy tripped out jazz. Super long improve jams, that take you in and out, of space and time. The recording is a very strong sounding board tape. There are some unfortunate cuts on some of the tracks. It doesn't take away from the music, it just makes some tracks start and stop a bit abruptly. Other than that this is a recording to have for all Miles fans.

UGLY CASANOVA 2001-11-19

Ugly Casanova, is Isac Brock of Modest Mouse. Or is he? It would seem not. And the story behind the creation of the band, and the one album is quite a tail. To read more about this tail please click HERE.  It's worth the read, and might give more of an appreciation for this beautiful music.  This matrix recording (Audience and soundboard blend) was recorded at Blackbird Theatre, Portland Oregon.  This concert sounds phenomenal. I love this music. The lyrics and music get me right in the heart. It's just beautiful.  I've had this for years. I think people need to get reacquainted with this sound. Thank you, Ryan McDaniel, for taping this show and sharing it with us. It's a true gem.

Spiritualized - Lakewood Theater Dallas, TX 2008-09-25

Ah yes, Spiritualized.  I absolutely love this band for so many reasons. As you can probably tell from the last few days.  I wont get into all the levels of meaning this band's music has for me.  I look forward to hearing new music by them. And would love to see them again in the future. But until that happens, we will all have to settle, for what they have given us thus far. Fortunately, they have been very generous. I've had this soundboard for quite sometime now.  And thought it would be nice to go back a bit in time. Jason and the band are in top form, playing a great set of songs. This soundboard recording is pretty good throughout. There is a bit of distortion, during the peak parts of certain songs. Overall its well balanced. This is one worth having in the collection. Oh, happy days.

01. Amazing Grace

The Rolling Stones - Chicago IL November 24, 1981

Ahh, you got to love the 1981 tour. There are so many great board recordings out there. And this is one of those soundboards. Playing live at Rosemont Horizon, Chicago Illinois, November 24, 1981. This is the Empress Valley EVSD 381-382 version titled "Sweet Home Chicago." They did a really good job of cleaning up the recording. It is definitely one of the better sounding boards for this tour. The sound is crisp and clear, although a bit dry, which is to be expected with board tapes. The Stones are in good spirits at this show, and play in top form. I mean for the Stones, They are not the tightest band in town, but that's what I love about 'em. Don't you? If you are a Stones fan you don't want to be without this one. Take it away........

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Butlin's Holiday Centre Minehead, UK 12/5/2010

Godspeed You! Black Emperor  What can I say about these somber fellows. They're an amazing band for one. This audience recording sounds great for two. This music comes on very slow, and quite. But as the music progresses the layers build, and the level rises and rises. Though the music doesn't necessarily pick up in speed. It will take your mind to places it hasn't been. This is late night music. Red light, herb, or molly, maybe both, and someone close. At least that's how I've enjoyed this music the most. Once again I'd like to thank Stephen for the taping this show. As always he's done a wonderful job of it. Take a listen.

New Riders Of The Purple Sage - April 28, 1971 Fillmore East, NY

Here's a great sounding board tape, from my favorite psychedelic cowboys. This concert features Jerry Garcia on pedal steel. This is back when they would open for The Grateful Dead on many occasions. Jerry was one of the original members. If anyone would like the original FLAC files, just let me know. I would be more than glad to make them available. This concert has some of their very best songs. And a great country fried cover of The Rolling Stones "Honky Tonk Women." This is a Charlie Miller master, which is a sign of great quality in Grateful Dead circles. I highly recommend a listen. Enjoy.

Set List:
01 - Tuning
02 - Workingman's Blues
03 - Superman
04 - Truck Drivin' Man

Piero Piccioni - Colpo Rovente

This is a motion picture soundtrack for the Italian film "Colpo Rovente." The film is also titled as "Red Hot Shot." This music was composed, arranged and conducted by Piero Piccion. And man, he did a fantastic job of it. This album has it all it's jazzy, trippy, psychedelic, easy listening, electronic, orchestral, and groovy, baby. I haven't had a chance to watch this 1969/70 thiller, but man do I want too. This is one film I will definitely hunt out, just because the music is so damn good. If you have any access, please let me know.

Monster Magnet - Forget About Life I'm High On Dope 1989

This is one of the two demo tapes Monster Magnet recorded in 1989.  This is from a cassette, so it has that cassette quality, that some of us will remember. The music is stoner rock in all its'caveman infancy. Nothing short of underwater psychedelia. Beautiful. You will be submerged in guitar and vocal effects. As you gasp for air, Dave Wyndorf just blows smoke in your face. Shit. Like you'd want it any other way. As soon as a find a copy of their other demo, I will post it. I promise Larry. Until then, have fun getting Monster-evil-psychedelic-Christmas-magnet style.

The Corporation - A "Sound" Contemporary Musical Investment 1968

This album is just an all around psychedelic fun time. These instrumentals have it all. Pop, jazz, the trippy guitar tones, Brady Bunch horn sections, and the 60's good vibe. You know the one, that makes you smile, with that silly giggle deep inside. It's cheesy, but in such a good way. So, smoke one. Play the music. Get that smile, and dance around your house, for no damn good reason. I know I will. I should say am.  After all it's a "sound" contemporary musical investment. So, invest.

The Stooges - New Orleans, LA November 1, 2003

Here's a solid soundboard of The Stooges. They are playing live at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans.  I love this show. Iggy is a crazy man. He swears at the audience throughout the set. It's hilarious to hear him berating people at the front of the stage. At one point, you get the feeling, he might just jump off, and kick the shit out of one guy. It's nice to hear these old guys still being evil as ever. Something, some of these new bands could learn from.  If you are into great hard rock, just download this. And have fun tearing up your living room.

Pink Floyd Oakland Coliseum May 9, 1977

This is the "Animal Instincts Rev B" version of this concert. And it is by far the best one out there, that I've heard. Harvested put a lot of hard work into remastering this soundboard. And it really paid off. I congratulate and thank them for doing so. This really is a great performance by The Floyd. They've got all the sound effects rolling and lush sound scapes.  The "Animals" set is superb. I haven't come across many show from this tour that sound this good. There is not a lot of live Animals out there. Check it out.

Colosseum - Boston Tea Party, Boston Mass Feb. 22,1969

Here is some nice smooth psychedelic-prog-jazz-rock, if you will allow. Colosseum's music will definitely take you out there.  And this concert does not disappoint, in that realm. This is a soundboard recording, taken directly from the reels at WBCN radio station, in Boston MA. I got say it sounds pretty damn good. The first song has a bit of weathering to it, but it quickly clears up. The music and the recording are both very enjoyable. I hope you agree. Burn one for me.

Set list:
1- Butty's Blues
2- The Machine Deserves a Sacrifice
Valentine Suite:
3- January's Search
4- February's Valentine
5- Beware the Ides of March (splice in middle where tape was ripped)

Bob Dylan & The Band Feb. 11, 1974 Oakland, CA.

This is a great concert. A must have for Dylan fans. Rather than give my two cents, I think this review I got with it says it all:
"This Japanese CD combines two excellent quality, superbly mixed soundboard recordings from the Feb.11, 1974 early and late shows, and  includes tracks performed by The Band as well. The performance, while fairly standard for 1974 in terms of the set list, is excellent in execution. A surprisingly enjoyable set and, as with Paint The Daytime Black, a far better representation of 1974 than the official Before The Flood album. "

Circulatory System - Nuci's Space, Athens, GA 6.26.2009

This is for all the psychedelic heads out there.  If you are a fan of Olivia Tremor Control, this band is for you. Many of the members of OTC ended up in Circulatory System.  This is a live audience recording, taped by Lance Stack. He did a wonderful job of it. Lance has an amazing recording rig, and this concert is a great example, of how an audience recording can sound better than a soundboard. Circulatory System will take you out into deep psychedelic space. And if your not careful you might not come back. Take the trip.

Set list:

3. Signal Morning
4. The Frozen Lake >
5. Woodpecker Greeting Worker Ant >
6. A Peek

30 Days of Dead

This is the second year of free high quality mp3's (320kbps). Everyday they will add a new live track from The Grateful Dead's Vault of treasures. Last years was amazing, so I'm sure this year will not disappoint. It's only the second day, and you can still get yesterdays. Today is a jovial “Slipknot > Franklin's Tower.” And yesterday is strong “New Potato Caboose” from Winterland 1967. Don't miss out. Once again, I am thankful to The Dead, for their never ending kindness. Take the time to share in it.

Neil Young - Avery Fisher Hall NY. April 24, 2011.

Here is the first night of two at Avery Fisher Hall in New York.  I posted the second night a few months ago, and have been meaning to get this one up ever since. Sorry for the delay.  The sound quality is almost the same. Though this one is in mono do to cable problems. This too is also an audience recording. I'm mainly putting this up for those of you who would like to have both nights. I like to have complete runs myself.  Of the two nights I would have to admit that the 25th is a bit better on the sound end.  The shows themselves are both great.

We Miss You.

(August 1, 1942 – August 9, 1995)

Jerry, my friend,
you've done it again,
even in your silence
the familiar pressure
comes to bear, demanding
I pull words from the air
with only this morning
and part of the afternoon
to compose an ode worthy
of one so particular
about every turn of phrase,
demanding it hit home
in a thousand ways
before making it his own,
and this I can't do alone.
Now that the singer is gone,
where shall I go for the song?

Without your melody and taste
to lend an attitude of grace
a lyric is an orphan thing,
a hive with neither honey's taste
nor power to truly sting.

What choice have I but to dare and
call your muse who thought to rest
out of the thin blue air
that out of the field of shared time,
a line or two might chance to shine --

As ever when we called,
in hope if not in words,
the muse descends.

How should she desert us now?
Scars of battle on her brow,
bedraggled feathers on her wings,
and yet she sings, she sings!

May she bear thee to thy rest,
the ancient bower of flowers
beyond the solitude of days,
the tyranny of hours--
the wreath of shining laurel lie
upon your shaggy head
bestowing power to play the lyre
to legions of the dead

If some part of that music
is heard in deepest dream,
or on some breeze of Summer
a snatch of golden theme,
we'll know you live inside us
with love that never parts
our good old Jack O' Diamonds
become the King of Hearts.

I feel your silent laughter
at sentiments so bold
that dare to step across the line
to tell what must be told,
so I'll just say I love you,
which I never said before
and let it go at that old friend
the rest you may ignore.

Journey - 05/27/1974 Sausalito, CA

Now, before you say what the hell's going on here? Let me explain. I am not in anyway shape or form a Journey fan.  But a good friend of mine, insisted that they were an amazing prog-rock band, when they started out. So, I figured I'd give him a chance, and checkout some of their early music. This concert takes place in May, several months before they signed to Columbia records in November. How's that for early beginnings? It was recorded at The Record Plant in Sausalito, CA. The recording is believed to be a soundboard. There is a bit of tape hiss, but not distracting to the music. I've got to say I quite enjoyed the music. They really were a good band, before Steve Perry got involved. It's night and day. They have some interesting jams and real tight band. It's really to bad they didn't stick with it. Thanks Josh for putting me on to some good shit. I do recommend checking this concert out.

Set List:
1 Intro > Mystery Mountain > Tuning
2 Topaz
3 All Too Much > In My Lonely Feeling > Conversation
4 Kohoutek
5 To Play Some Music > Drum Solo > To Play Some Music
6 Of A Lifetime
7 In the Morning Day > Outtro

Taj Mahal - 04/05/1979 Palalido, Milano, Italy.

It's Taj Mahal what more needs to be said, really.  This a pretty strong sounding recording.  It's taken straight off of the soundboard to cassette tape.  So, it does have a bit of that cassette sound, but you quickly get used to it , and truly get immersed in the music.  I want to thank 38f for recording and sharing this concert with us.  32 years later, we can still enjoy this concert, thanks to 38f.  So Please, Enjoy.
