Alex Chilton - The Knitting Factory, February 13, 1997

Here is another wonderful recording to help celebrate Mr. Chilton's life of music. Thanks to Jeff Vargon we have this great recording. This is a very special show. Here is the story as told by Jeff Vargon.
"After an unexpected loss of power, the club's management announced that the second set was canceled and in spite of the grumbles of the audience, refunds were given out. I, and a handful of others, chose to remain in our seats and unexpectedly Alex came out onto the floor. By the grace of the muses one of the audience members had an acoustic guitar, and handed it to Alex on a whim. Alex began strumming, and what began as a brief four song run-through led to over an hour of amazing, and at times, almost ethereal music."
Thank you Jeff, for recording and sharing this with us. This is truly a very special recording, of a one of kind singer song writer.

THE FACES - London, Paris Theatre 02-08-1973

So, hears the situation. Apparently, this concert was recorded for the BBC, to be aired back in 1973. This however never happened. because the BBC thought they were to drunk. Hmmm, imagine that, The Faces to drunk. This is the same band that toured with a bar right on the stage. I think that was the point of their performances back then. Fast forward thirty years, and the show finally airs on BBC 6. And even that airing is supposedly by accident. You got to love this band. And damn, if the concert doesn't rock, no matter how drunk they were back then.

Set List:

1 Silicone Grown
2 Cindy Incidentally
3 Angel
4 Memphis, Tennesse
5 True Blue
6 I’d Rather Go Blind
7 You're My Girl
8 Twistin' The Night Away
9 It's All Over Now
10 Miss Judy's Farm
11 Maybe I'm Amazed
12 Three Button Hand Me Down
13 I’m Losing You

Storm De Hirsch - Peyote [1965]

This is a pretty cool tripped out film. The music is interesting as well. It goes from percussion, to an organ and horn jam, and back. It's the visuals that get me.

Flaming Lips - Borderline

The flaming lips Borderline

Crazy version. This is what I love about these guys. They don't just cover a song. They re-imagine it. If you haven't checked out their version of Pink Floyd's "Dark side of the Moon," get on it. It's kinda scary. Thanks CJ for the heads up on this video.

Original Pop Corn -1969

Ok, this is a weird one. The information I have obtained about this record is this. A bunch of talented tripped out French musicians got together to create a new dance. Whether serious, or not, I don't now, but this is what the out come was. The record is supposed to be the soundtrack to the new dance the Original Pop Corn. This is sixties psychedelic pop at its strangest. There are some really cool jams throughout. The musicians not only use there instruments to get psychedelic sounds, but the studio itself. Lots of drippy re-verb, and other odd uses of studio effect. The album is going to be reissued as vinyl in a few months. If you are interested, you can preorder a copy for yourself here at Movie Grooves. Which by the way has tons of amazing psychedelic vinyl and compact discs. It's a great website. I highly recommend you check it out. Have fun shaking your corns to this one.

Furthur - Tabernacle Atlanta GA 2/8/10

Stream of the whole concert.

I had an amazing time at this show. The boys got it driving full steam ahead. I missed the first couple of songs trying to score a ticket outside. Fortunately, I got that miracle. Estimated Prophet and Passenger sounded great. The second set was unbelievable. They started with 13 minute Scarlet Begonias right into a killer version of Jack Straw. This show was beyond sold out, but it didn't matter. Everybody was having a good time. I think Molly had a lot to do with that. Lord knows she widened my eyes, and sparkled my ears. Got many a hug and much generosity. Can't wait till the next time.

Here is a real crisp audience recording done by Z-Man. Thanks for sharing this with us.

2001: A Spiritualized Odyssey

Ok, this is amazing. A group called The Almighty Sound redid "2001" the Stanley Kubrick film with a new soundtrack. Yes, easy guess Spiritualized. They did an amazing job. They replaced the audio track, with their choices, of Spiritualized songs. Though you can not hear the actors speak, they did add subtitles. It makes for a very interesting watch. If your a fan of either the film, or band it's a must have. And the best part is they are working on a surround sound 5.1 version that should be out in the near future. I highly recommend you burn one or two and Check it out.

J. Geils Band - Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, CT 12/31/2009

The J. Geils Band have gotten back together. And they still got it, baby. This New Years Eve show is rocking. Overall, this is a pretty damn good sounding audience recording. There are a few technical difficulties here and there, but nothing that is to annoying. If you get a chance to check these got out, on their current tour, do it. They're still a rocking party band. You can checkout more videos and tour info at Funkyjudge.
