July - July 1968

Here is great one to help kick in your weekend. Though July was only together for less than a year, they definitely made their mark on the British psychedelic scene. This is well crafted pop type psychedelia. "Jolly Mary" being one of my favorite on this record. The drum breaks remind me of something you would hear in trip-hop music of today. These songs are trippy, odd, weird and head induced. The more you listen the more fun you will have. This is one the bands you can hear the correlation with Olivia Tremor Control, Sun Shine Fix, or any of the Elephant Six bands of today. And I think one will agree that July outperforms the bands of now. I hope they bring you a smile.

hey mang, you have yet to disappoint...this is great stuff...speaking of Elephant 6 do you have the first Circulatory System album? It's one of the guys from OTC, not the Sunshine Fix guy...it's awesome.

Thank you very much for the presentation of "July" - - This is the first album of later well-known progressive band "Jade Warrior" which is also highly recommended to listen to.

may you day be sunny - Herr Ärmel

Well to be pedantic, while two founder members of Jade Warrior do indeed contribute a great deal to this album in terms of playing and arranging the music, the real creative force behind July was vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Tom Newman.

He later moved into engineering and production, overseeing the construction of The Manor studios, and went on to engineer and co-produce Tubular Bells.

If you'd like to hear what July might have sounded like by 1975 if they'd continued, then I'd recommend getting hold of Tom Newman's 1975 solo album, 'Fine Old Tom', which is both strange and excellent.
