13th Floor Elevators - Avalon Ballroom 1966

I wasn't going to post anything for a bit, but I came across this, and was to excited to hold off.  I've had a few versions of this recording for quite sometime. As I'm sure many of you hardcore Elevator fans have as well. So, what's so great about this one? Let me tell you. According to the info that I got with it, this is a 2nd clone copy of the original soundboard recording. Which means the sound quality is spectacular. It is definitely the best source that I have come across thus far. It is also the most complete recording of this concert. I'm very excited to have this, as I hope all of you will be too.

It's all instrumentals and the sound quality is pretty damn good. There's two long jams and one five minute jam. It's all very interesting. So, enjoy your Christmas eve, with this one.

Can - Lyon January 1976

I absolutly love this recording.  Not only is the concert amazing, so is the soundboard. Can's instrumental jams are unstoppable. One hundred percent pure liquid psychedelia. It tickles your ear hairs in every tripped out way possible. Track eight is 33 minutes long broken into three sections. It has to be my favorite of the set. This to me is a great late night listen, with the lights down low. Burn some incense and a candle, or maybe turn on a red light. Whatever gives your eyes that psychedelic help. Smoke some of your favorite smoke that you've been saving for a special occasion. And then just let this music wash over you. Clear your mind and let that music helpyou think about something new. Have a nice voyage.

Live at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena, The Alice Cooper Group was melting some ears. Thirty-nine years ago on December 27th, some strange things were afoot. This is a soundboard recording documenting that occasion. The sound has a bit of age to it, never the less, it is still a very enjoyable listen. It has hard driving, high spirits.  Enjoy.

Fear - 1985/12/21

Ok, hear is something a lot different for this blog. It's in no way psychedelic. Although, it is all the way a good fucking time. I've loved this band for years and years. Fear "The Record" is one of my all-time favorites. I've warn out many a copy of that one. What we have here is a great sounding FM recording live on KPFK in Los Angeles. This is the Anti-Christmas show. 35 years ago today, Fear was having no fear at all. Tearing it up, and blasting out 30 songs in under an hour. So, if the Christmas Holiday is getting you down, like it has to me, I suggest this. Turn it up loader than loud, play "Fuck Christmas", and jump around the room. If that doesn't put a smile on your face. Play it again.  Hope this helps everyone get through. Besides there is only four more days left. Merry, Merry.

Beck - Beck, Like Beer

Here's a very interesting demo tape from Beck. I've had this for several years now, and just recently came across it again. Beck, Like Beer came out in 1992. It wasn't released to the general public, but fortunately for us it made it out anyway. There are some real good songs on here. I really like "Puttin' It Down." As far as how it made it to us, Breathmint explains it all in the info, enclosed with the music. Thankfully, Breathmint is the one who made it available to us.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 2010-12-08

It's been along time since Godspeed You! Black Emperor played together in a live venue. They are back on tour and sounding as good as they ever have. From what I've been reading about the tour so far, they are playing strong and LOUD. So,if you are lucky enough to catch them, bring your earplugs. I hope to see them in March at The 40 Watt in Athens, GA. But until then, there is some great stuff being recorded from this current tour. This is one of them. Clawhammer did a great job with this audience recording. Live at The Barrowland in Glasgow, Scotland. You can feel the intensity in the music coming through this recording. Along with a couple of drunk fools between songs. Fortunately, they don't take away from it. This band brings back some great memories for me. I hope they do for you too.

The Byrds - 1970-01-04

Haven't put up any music by these guys yet, and I think it's about fine time.  I'm trying to put up music everyday till Christmas. So far so good. And it's been  a challenge not only to find the time, but also to share something worth while. I think this recording fits that bill. What we have here is a crystal clear soundboard recording, of both the early and late night concerts. Don't you wish bands still did this? How great would it be to go see your favorite band twice in one day. You could go sober for the first one, and then hit the bar, so you could tear it up on the late night show. That way you could at least remember one of the sets. Anyways, enjoy this beautiful recording of the first psychedelic country rockers, The Byrds. Recorded live at the Fillmore West in San Fransisco.

Moby Grape - 1969-02-12

I've had a couple request for more Moby Grape. I have a few recordings by this great band, but not many that sound all that good. It's disappointing because they really had a lot to offer. Just listening to the bad recording you can tell they really put it all out there. But alas all is not murky, hissy, garbled and aged. I have one that does not tax your ears. Instead it lights them up with psychedelic love. There is a bit of weather, but only slight. It's a very satisfying soundboard. "And I'm So Grateful."

Just go straight to the 18 minute L.M.L.Y.P., have a good cry of happiness, and start the whole damn concert over.  This is another Schoeps audience masterpiece. Thank you Taylorc for the wonderful recording. One of the things I love about this recording is the audience going bananas. It just makes me love every note of music that much more. And how can anyone not love The Fucking Ween. Have a good smile with this one.

The Kinks live in Detroit, Michigan, at Cobo Arena on the 10th of August 1979. This soundboard is amazing A++. Crisp, crisp, crispy, crisp. Not to mention it's the tour for my favorite album by them. Low Budget. I absolutly love that album. This concert plays all the best cuts off the record. "A Gallon of Gas" being one of my favorites. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. Like six hours longer. Hey, I can dream. My work around is hitting repeat.

Arlo Guthrie - 1967-10-01

Arlo Guthrie performing live at The Bitter End Cafe, in  New York city. I love this recording. Arlo is a funny guy. Through out this show he shares his humorous wit. This is a nice simple mono soundboard. Just Arlo and his git fiddle, and it sounds amazing.  He plays a twenty-five minute version of "Alice's Restaurant," which he introduces as "Alice's Restaurant Part 2".  The song "The Pause Of Mister Claus" has some interesting lyrics. All in all it's a must have for Arlo Guthrie fans. And if you are not that familiar with his music, it's great way to get turned on to it.

The Loading Zone peforming live at The Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, CA on February 2nd, 1968. This is the third night of a three night stretch. What we have here is  a nice crisp sounding board recording, of this psychedelic rhythm and blues band. Though they didn't make it big in record sales, they did play a strong role in the San Francisco psychedelic music scene. You will see their name on many a tripped out concert poster through out this time period. They've opened for The Grateful Dead, Quick Silver Messenger Service, The Jefferson Airplane and many other big bands. This band is tight and the singers have strong pipes.

LSD, A Documentary Report - 1966

Released by Capitol Records in 1966.  With the growing popularity of LSD at the time, Capitol felt the need to capitalize on LSD. This album is definitely tripped out. I mean Dick Clark is the narrator. That alone trips me out. The music and the sound effects are great. Listening to people trip out.  Dr. Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsburg also make an appearance on this album. I'm not sure if Capital is trying to scare you away from LSD, or drive you straight to it. Lord knows after I listened to album, I was ready to find a travel agent and drop a cap. And remember "Before you pass judgment. Please listen to it."  Then drop out.

Spacemen 3 - 1989-05-14 Stuttgart

Seethelight7 has shared with us this fabulous audience recording, of our psychedelic brothers The Spacemen 3. It's real tough to find quality sounding recordings of these guys. I really like how this one came out. There is a few brief volume drops, but nothing that hinders the listening experience. If you are a fan of Spiritualized, you should give this one a go. This is where it all started for J. Spaceman. It's the dirty, dirty, dark, dark, druggie, drug, drug, drug psychedelia. Did I mention druggie, drug, drug? So, paint your brain brown, and get way down.

The Rolling Stones - 1981-09-26 JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, Penn.

Ahhhhh, The Rolling Stones. You never know what your gonna get with these lads. And that's the best part of the experience. This is the second night of their 1981 tour. Knowing this will instantly tell you that some of the songs are extremely loose. But that is not a bad thing. It just makes it more interesting. For the ones that don't quite make it, there are many others that really hit the mark. And hell shouldn't we all be sloppy drunk when we embark on such a musical mission anyway? This is a soundboard recording, it's not in stereo, but mono. This should not deter you. The music sounds great. It's very well balanced. So, once again it's time to get saucy, and shake your tail feather.

Reconstruction - Civic Auditorium; Santa Monica, CA 7/22/79

 

The Reconstruction was a band put together by John Kahn, featuring Jerry Garcia on guitar.  This soundboard is packed with jam funk instrumentals mostly. If you are expecting this to sound like the Grateful Dead, you would be seriously mistaken. This is more funk psychedelia. It does not disappoint. Unfortunately  this band only lasted for about 8 months, it did make some amazing music. This concert is definitely one of them.

Lothar and the Hand People - Space Hymn (1969)

Moog anyone? Lothar and the Hand People are a bunch of happy psychedelic space-cadets. "Space Hymn" is their second and last album. So, if you like moogs, early synthesizers and random psychedelic weirdness, you are in for a good time. A Rolling Stone magazine review describes them as this:

"It is electronic country, a kind of good-time music played by mad dwarfs, and it is really good to listen to. There is no tension here, no jarring forces at war with each other. It may be strange that New York, the city which deifies speed and insanity, could produce this music, but it is as if Lothar and the Hand People have gone through this madness and come out on the other side, smiling."

Neil Young, Bob Dylan & The Band - 1975-03-23 SNACK Benifit.

This an interesting concert. I mean Neil Young, Bob Dylan and The Band has got to be interesting. They got together for The San Fransisco SNACK Benefit Concert at Kezar Stadium. Here is the info I got with the recording.

"This was a one time only mixture of Dylan/Band/Young.  The appearance of Neil Young and company was merely rumored and Dylan's performance was a complete surprise. Completely unrehearsed, some of this music is great.  Dylan debuts I Want You live, but unfortunately he can't be heard for most of the song. Mostly what we hear is Rick Danko shouting the chorus. Hearing the Band without Robbie Robertson is weird at first, but Ben Keith makes up for it very nicely. The oddest thing on this tape is the Helpless/Knockin' medley where Dylan substitutes "knockin' on the dragon's door" for "knockin' on heaven's door". I have no idea what he meant by it! The entire set is approximately 45 minutes"

The Blues Project - The Matrix San Fransisco, CA September 1966

Here we have two concerts at The Matrix in San Francisco, CA 1966. The actual dates remain somewhat of a mystery. Both superbly preserved soundboards. The Blues Project  are one of the first pioneers of psychedelic rock, with the extended jams to boot. And these two concert show you why. If you haven't gotten around to checking these guys out, this is a good starting point. I wish they had stuck around a bit longer, they were definitely on to something. Hopefully more live recordings will appear in the future. Hearing them live is far more rewarding a listen, than the few studio albums they put out. But that's generally the case with this style of music.

What we have here is two sets of radio broadcasts from Europa 1 Radio France. Tracks one through three are taken from Hotel de Champs-Elysees a Paris, Paris, France on January 23, 1970. Tracks four through six are taken from Palais Des Sports, Lyon, France on June 12, 1971. They both sound very good for FM recordings.

To help celebrate the release of Monster Magnet's new album "Mastermind".   Here is a soundboard recording made by the radio station WBCN. This is back when WBCN actually had a strong play-list, and Monster Magnet was pumping out some serious psychedelic space junk. I had the great fortune of being able to attend this show with my friends. Though my mind was seriously under heavy psychedelic pressure, I do remember having the time of my life. And this recording only helps to reverberate it all back into my mind. So, in the words of Dave Wyndorf  "Down that medicine now!"

Lou Reed - Alice Tully Hall New York 1973-01-27

This recording is nothing more than perfect. Lou Reed  is in top form and his band is gritty. They really jam it out on some of these songs. This is a must have for all Lou Reed and Velvet Underground fans. You're gonna love it.

David Bowie - PNE Live Rehearsal 1976

It's rare to  fined early Bowie that sounds descent. But that is what we have here. This is a soundboard recording of a rehearsal at The Pacific National Exhibition Coliseum in Vancouver, BC, Canada on February 2nd 1976.
